Alexanders is a wild plant of the European coastal region that belongs to the umbellifers. It's an incredibly versatile vegetable and seasoning plant that has nearly fallen into oblivion. Historical names are "black-lovage" or "black potherb" From antiquity until the Middle Ages, the plant was cultivated especially because of its tasty roots. But also young sprouts and leaves were used as a vegetable. Furthermore, it's a good spice herb for soups, which taste reminds of celery and lovage. Even the seeds can be used as a whole or used as spicy seasoning ground in a pepper mill.
