'Chocolate Orange' is a beautiful annual Black-Eyed Susan variety that deserves to be more widely grown. Its special feature is the unusual flower colouring, with petals shading from dark chocolate brown at the centre to sunflower yellow on the outer edge. The flowers appear from July through to September and their warm, luminous colours make them a stand-out feature in the late-summer flower bed. Black-Eyed Susan is especially well suited to herbaceous borders in cottage gardens, prairie gardens and natural gardens, and also as a container plant. Not only does it look good but insects love it, too, as it’s a good source of nectar. The flowers also make an excellent cut flower for home-grown colourful autumn bouquets.
