The Blue Egyptian Lotus is a water lily from tropical Africa. In ancient Egypt, the plant was apparently used medicinally and played a significant part in mythology. In the grave of Ramses II., dried blossoms of Nymphaea caerulea were discovered. From this period, numerous portrayals on drinking vessels and vases have survived.
