Caltrops is a tropical, Asian plant that grows low and blooms yellow. Fruits, seed capsules, and leaves can be consumed but are no especially desired food. Much more important is the pharmacological effect of the plant.It's especially effective with prostate problems and can be used to support potency but also in cancer therapy and the treatment of leprosy, good successes could be detected. Active ingredients are contained in the seeds as well as in the blossoms and fruits. Caltrops, in Ayurvedic medicine known as Gokshura, among other things, causes an increase of the testosterone level and is, therefore, traditionally used as an anabolic agent and aphrodisiac in Asia. By now, Western sports medicine has also discovered it as a remedy for muscle building although this effect is not proved scientifically. The hard, prickly seeds of the plant are very painful when stepping on them. They can even pierce bicycle tyres - in Asian ninja martial art, it wasn't uncommon to scatter caltrop seed capsules, which carry the poison through the soles and even through the thin sandals into the body, on the night path of the opponent.
