Caper Spurge is also called Mole Plant as it has a deterrent effect on voles. Of course, one plant in the whole garden isn't sufficient for that purpose, but voles seem not to feel comfortable approx. 3-4 metres around the plant. The spurge bears its name because, when it's injured, it oozes a white plant juice, which is poisonous and can lead to skin irritations. Hence, it also used to be called Witch's Milk. Furthermore, the plant is said to have magical properties. Like this, with the spurge's help, closed doors and locks could be opened.
