The chickpea probably originates from the region of today's Turkey, where it has been cultivated since the Neolithic Period. In ancient Rome, it was very popular and it already came to Germany back then.

Today, it is grown in many warm countries. It forms the basis for falafel and hummus. Our variety has bright seeds, comes from Italy, and is suitable for the Central European climate. For a successful harvest, however, very hot and rather dry summer is necessary.

Chickpeas are very warmth-demanding. Therefore, a preculture in the house in April can favour a good harvest very much. A sandy, permeable soil would be ideal. Temper before planting.
Chickpeas are exceedingly frugal, tolerate drought very well, and need extremely much sun. Sandy, permeable soil would be ideal. They tolerate no waterlogging and should only be watered carefully when really dry.
At temperatures below +20°C, germination and growth can be clearly retarded.
