Common lungwort is a very early wild flower mainly found in light deciduous forests. It likes to grow in large carpets under trees and is one of the first important nectar plants of the year for insects. The wild perennial with white dotted leaf tops is a real feast for the eyes. These points are also the reason for the eponym of the plant, since in the Middle Ages it was considered a signature for alveoli and subsequently the plant was declared a medicinal plant for lung diseases of all kinds. And in fact, real lungwort is a medicinal plant for these ailments, as it has a high silicic acid content and contains a number of mucilages, tannins, saponins and minerals that have an anti-inflammatory effect on coughs and irritations. Furthermore, the flowers change colour from pink to blue within a few days. The plant is very colourful and attractive as an ornamental plant for the house garden in semi-shade locations in your flower patches or as an underplant for shrubs and trees.
