Dahlias originate from Mexico and have already decorated the temples of the Aztecs there. Its starchy tubers, which can be prepared like potatoes, as well as its blossoms, which do well as salad, are edible. Today, innumerable varieties are known. 'Bishop's Children' is a beautiful variety that blooms lushly in red shades. As dahlias are very popular with snails, marigold can be planted nearby.
