The drumstick plant also commonly known as billy buttons is a lovely, delicate perennial that is native to Australia and New Zealand. There it prefers warm, sunny locations and loves a rather dry and poor soil. In the central European climate it is usually not hardy and is therefore sown as a one-year summer flower. Its special feature is the spherical inflorescence, which is made up of many yellow individual flowers and sits on a bare stem about 30 cm long. Cut the stem above the leaf rosette and you will indeed get the impression of a drumstick. The flower is easy to cut and will hold up very well in a bouquet or as a dried flower in a wreath or other floral arrangement.
