Dyer’s rocket is best known for its use as natural dye for textiles. The plant's main dye, luteolin, has been valued since ancient times for its bright yellow to green hues. It hence was central to the European textile industry until the introduction of synthetic dyes. Reseda luteola is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Reseda family. It can grow to a height of up to one metre and has lanceolate leaves and dense, yellow inflorescences. Its nectar and pollen attract a wide range of pollinators, including bees and butterflies. Though best known for its dye, the plant has historically been used for medicinal purposes, such as reducing fever and improving respiratory conditions.
