The Eastern Prickly Pear is a clustery to bushy growing, hardy prickly pear that can reach approx. 10cm up to, in exceptional cases, 30cm in height. It develops reddish, edible fruits, the so-called prickly pear. Its occurrence ranges from the East and the Mid of the USA but it was also imported to Europe and even grows there in the alps. It's ranked one of the hardiest varieties and is hardy down to -30°C. The Lakota Indians used the prickly pear to heal snake bites.
