The European Bladdernut is a very rare shrub native to the South East of Central Europe, which grows in warm forests. After heyday, bladder-shaped capsules are formed in which the actual nuts are. These, in return, are cracked and contain a pea-sized kernel with an intense almond and pistachio-like flavour. Since antiquity, the European Bladdernut has already been appreciated due to its tasty grains. In former days, jewellery and rose wreaths were made from dried nuts. In the Bavarian Forest, the notorious European Bladdernut liqueur is made. It's also said to have potency-enhancing and stimulating properties. Aptly, in German, there's the word "pimpern".
