Although it originates from North America, the Evening Primrose is not uncommonly found in the wild in Europe. Its starchy tubers have a spicy aroma and are considered very healthy. In Goethe's days, evening primrose was a valued gourmet vegetable. The long roots were mostly grated prepared as a salad. The taste is reminiscent of horseradish and celery.
