Chillis have long been integrated as a spice into German cuisines, even though they are not considered a native plant in Germany. The aromatic, hot chillies need warmer climates to grow and originate from South and Central America. The winter in Central Europe is too cold for them unless you give them a warm and bright place in the house. In fact, the chilli bush is a perennial and in the second year it produces a much better harvest than the first. A beautiful, exotic houseplant that is well worth it.
