Often one stands in front of the shady places in the garden and would like to embellish them or use them at all. Vegetables and herbs for the shade are rare and also most other typical shade plants don't exactly score with their flower splendour. However, there are some insider tips that are attractive and even useful. Their flowers provide food for many different insect species.
The selected plant species are also suitable for underplanting trees and shrubs.

Marsh-mallow (organic) (Althaea officinalis)
It is perfect as an ornamental plant for any cottage garden, as a container plant, decorates herb and flower beds and is a great food plant for bees. Above all, however, the marshmallow is a medicinal plant used since antiquity with mainly expectorant effect.
Common lungwort (organic) (Pulmonaria officinalis)
The wild perennial with white dotted leaf tops is a real feast for the eyes. It grows mainly in light deciduous forests and is one of the first important nectar plants of the year for insects.
Jacob's ladder (organic) (Polemonium caerulum)
Sky blue, delicate flowers glow from June in semi-shade. A beautiful perennial for the edge of the pond and the flower bed. Good willow for insects.
Common speedwell (organic) (Veronica officinalis)
Known in the Middle Ages as a miracle cure, today it adorns the garden. Preferably in semi-shade, dry locations.
Betony, Common Hedgenettle (organic) (Betonica officinalis)
Historical native wild perennial with many beautiful flowers in pink to violet, which feeds especially bumblebees. For many centuries it was regarded as a panacea.
