Globe Amaranth is a great annual flower from Central and South America. It blooms from July to the first frosts and is perfectly suitable as a cut and dried flower. The blossoms are globular with a diameter of approx. 3cm and shine in a beautiful magenta-purple colour shade. However, every inflorescence consists of many small single blossoms. As good nectar and pollen givers, these strongly attract useful insects like bees and are a good food source. In case you'd like to dry the blossoms, you shouldn't let them blossom fully but cut them in an early stage and tie them up upside down on a dry, dark spot. Globe Amaranth is also known as a medicinal plant. You can prepare the dried blossoms as tea, which is said to help a lot with coughing and hoarseness.
