Depending on the climate at home, some outdoor sowing is already possible in April. However, if there are still frequent night frosts, most varieties must still be cultivated indoors. The young plants will then already have a good head start on growth when they can be transplanted into the bed in mid-May after the Ice Saints. The garden nasturtium grows as an annual plant with garland-like, trailing stems and lots of extraordinarily large, vibrant orange-yellow flowers, in our climate. Their sharp flavour is surprisingly pronounced and not unlike cress.
