Guernsey Pigweed is a millennia-old spinach plant and has already been proven in the early stilt houses of our ancestors. Guernsey Pigweed, also called Purple Amaranth, has been replaced by spinach although it contains much more iron and calcium. The undemanding amaranth slightly resembles orach and provides tasty spinach. Fresh leaves can be harvested all summer long. In former times, it was often grown in cottage gardens.

In recent times, these are also processed in green smoothies. The seeds of the plant can be used like millet. In winter, the not fully harvested plant serves as good birdseed.

Schöne und trockenheitsverträgliche Pflanze mit großen Fruchtständen, die größer wird als hier angegeben (ca. 1,4 m). Dieser Rote Meier kann anders als der Gartenfuchsschwanz ins Freie gesät werden und keimt sehr gut. Empfehlung!
