Hawkweed occurs wildly in whole Central Europe in dry locations like sunny walls, paved stone joints but also on meadows. It's a good stone garden plant. The yellow blooming herb was considered a significant medicinal plant for a long time. The dried leaves are said to have a deeply relaxing effect. Hawkweed is also prepared as a tea in folk medicine and used as a detoxicant and for the strengthening of the eyesight. In former days, the herb was said to protect from evil spells.
