The Himalayan Mayapple originates from the barberry family and grows in altitudes between 2000 and 3500 metres in and around the Himalaya. Occasionally, due to its beautiful red, small but poisonous berries, it can be found as a decorative plant in green areas and parks. In former days, its fruits were used as an emetic agent or for the treatment of infected wounds.
