Cucumbers (Cucumis Sativus) originate from India, where they have been cultivated as early as 1500 BC. We are so familiar with the common salad cucumber but in fact, there are many old and rare cucumber varieties hardly known in central Europe.

Therefore, for this seed kit we selected 6 unusual, old heirloom cucumber varieties of surprising shape and colour:

Apple Cucumber (Cucumis Sativus)
Apple cucumbers are pale green, nearly white, apple-shaped cucumbers with a lovely mild-sweet flavour.
Netted Cucumber 'Brown Russian' (Cucumis Sativus)
‘Brown Russian’ is an unusual looking brown pickling cucumber with a light crème’ netted’ patterned skin. This cucumber variety is very robust and lends itself well to outdoor cultivation.
Armenian Cucumber (Cucumis Melo Var. Flexuosus)
The Armenian cucumber is a Mediterranean melon variety, which strongly tastes like cucumber and produces similar looking, long and slender crops.
Yellow Cucumber 'Crystal Lemon' (Cucumis Sativus)
’Crystal Lemon’ is a traditional, yellow cucumber variety, which has adapted itself very well to central European climates and produces crops in abundance.
White Cucumber 'White Wonder' (Cucumis Sativus)
’White Wonder’ is an old, white, ground-creeping cucumber variety, with high yield.
