This means that homeopaths use substances that in higher doses cause similar symptoms to the disease being treated. These substances are administered in a greatly diluted form, aiming to produce a healing effect without causing unwanted side effects.
Natural substances – plants, minerals and animal products – form the basis for producing homeopathic remedies. These base materials are “potentiated” in a special process which involves diluting and shaking them repeatedly. This “potentiation” is intended to release the substance’s curative power. Homeopathic remedies are available in various dosage forms, including globules, drops and pills.
Many of our native plants are processed to produce homeopathic remedies, including some traditional medicinal plants such as marigold (Calendula) and mountain arnica (Arnica) but also less familiar medicinal plants like onion (Allium).
