The variety Minnesota Midget is a very early ripening melon. The plants are compact and can even be grown in large pots. It is also a very good choice for planting in raised beds, as it only forms short branches. The short ripening period of just 60 days suits northern climates. The fruits are small, about 10cm in diameter, and have a deliciously sweet flavour. Perfect for scooping. Ripe fruits can be easily removed from the plant. The Minnesota Midget variety was bred at the University of Minnesota and introduced around 1948.
