This horse bean is a fairly modest broad bean which has been cultivated for centuries. It is a small-seeded and much older form of the fava bean and is only of regional importance as a vegetable plant today. It was known as an element of "peas and beans" in medieval crop rotation. Heirloom variety.

Sow horse beans as early as possible from the end of February directly outdoors. Break out the stem tips for good growth. Horse beans taste best when harvested young. Seeds of legumes often germinate a lot better when they are allowed to pre-soak in water for several hours.
