The ice plant belongs to the Aizoaceae, stems from the sandy, dry coastal regions of South Africa, and, therefore, loves dry, sunny places and also tolerates salty soil. It's easy to cultivate and has beautiful pink-white blossoms in late summer. It's not only interesting as a decorative plant but also an absolute rarity among lettuces. The slightly salty leaves seem to be covered with ice crystals and can be harvested every 3-4 weeks. Only use the shoot tips so that the leaves can grow again. The crunchy structure is very interesting in salads or as a decoration. The leaves can also be steamed briefly.
