Jack-By-the-Hedge is an interesting, native wild plant that is related to other wild herbs like charlock and Chinese cress and belongs to the crucifers. Depending on the time of year, the herb may taste more like garlic or cress. The blossoms and seed pods are also edible raw and taste spicy like garlic. Out of the crushed, oily seeds, good herb mustard can be produced. Unpeeled, the roots are said to be used similar to horseradish as far as they grow in nutritious garden soil. Apart from their use as a spice and salad plant, the plant can also be used as a dye plant.
