The Japanese Rose originates from Japan and East Asia. It's a very robust shrub rose that most often gets as high as it gets broad and also often demands 2 sq m. It's very often seen in wild-growing hedges, on slopes and it's known from the famous "Friesenwall" used as property fencing in the north of Germany. As it's very typical in the scenic image of the island Sylt, the Japanese Rose is also often called Beach Rose. The blossoms appear all summer long, mostly unfilled and shining in light pink. They have the typical intense wild rose scent. What's also very attractive is the thick, pulpy dogroses in autumn that are edible and can be used for dogrose jam or liqueur. The Japanese Rose is perfectly suitable as a bird-protecting hedge.
