What to sow outdoors in July

July’s the perfect time to get your garden ready for the coming winter season. Sow winter vegetables like kale, brussels sprouts and savoy cabbage now for fresh harvests in winter.
Root vegetables like beetroot and carrot are also ideal for sowing in July, while Asian greens like pak choi and mizuna produce quick harvests and can cope with low temperatures.

As well as winter vegetables, July is also the perfect time to sow biennial flowers like hollyhock, foxglove and forget-me-not. These flowers develop a leaf rosette in the first year and then flower abundantly in the second year. Sowing them in July gives them time to become strong and sturdy so that they produce beautiful flowers the following year.
Prepare your garden thoroughly now and you can enjoy a rich and varied harvest in the coming months.
