Lark's tongue kale is an old and very tasty German kale variety. The cultivar is actually called 'Lerchenzungen'. It is semi-high with its 80-100cm and has slender, elongated, slightly ruffled and very aromatic leaves. Kale is an uncomplicated winter vegetable that can be harvested from the beginning of frost until spring. It contains a lot of vitamin C. Kale is supposed to be closely related to wild cabbage and is therefore a very old crop that was grown before Christ in Greece already in the 3rd century. Besides, the plant is very decorative and is often grown as an overseeding of potatoes or other early vegetables in intercropping. A particularly good partner are tomatoes, as both of them require lots of nutrients, and tomatoes protect the kale against typical cabbage insect pests.
