True laurel, also called bay tree is a Mediterranean spice and medicinal plant. Especially the fresh leaves have a rich flavor which e.g. fits well with soups and fish dishes. Medically the bay laurel was especially used for skin diseases. In ancient times, laurel wreaths were considered a special award and symbol of glory and honor.
