'Vertus' is a mid-to-late season Savoy cabbage variety, producing round heads with a beautiful blue-green colour. It’s a variety that stores very well and can easily be kept in storage through into February. Like all brassicas, Savoy cabbage is very rich in vitamins C and B. And it’s very versatile in the kitchen – it can be cooked on its own as a side vegetable or added to stews, and it makes a delicious cabbage roulade. The young raw leaves also taste great in salads. The first written descriptions of the crinkly-leaved Savoy cabbage date from the 16th century and this cabbage type probably originated in northern Italy. Today this super-healthy vegetable is known and valued worldwide.
