Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens) is the largest bamboo cultivar that can survive in temperate climates. It reaches a height of between 4 and 30 m. North of the Alps, these gigantic dimensions are rarely achieved. Moso bamboo, however, is also hardy in Central Europe!

Moreover, Phyllostachys pubescens is an important crop. It is grown for its fleshy, savory sprouts and provides fibers and wood for furniture.

Moso bamboo seeds have to pre-soaked in warm water for several hours. Then, sow the seeds but don't fully cover them with soil since they are light germinators. Keep moist and warm. The seedlings can be planted outdoors after the last frost.
