Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens) is the largest bamboo cultivar that can survive in temperate climates. It reaches a height of between 4 and 30 m. North of the Alps, these gigantic dimensions are rarely achieved. Moso bamboo, however, is also hardy in Central Europe! Moreover, Phyllostachys pubescens is an important crop. It is grown for its fleshy, savory sprouts and provides fibers and wood for furniture.
