Motherwort originates from the Ural Mountains and Southern Siberia but is also a very traditional domestic medicinal plant in Central Europe, which has already been known in antiquity. It belongs to the mint family and used to be a part of the standard planting in monastery and cottage gardens. The appearance in German wilderness has decreased enormously and the plant is classified as endangered. For a long time, motherwort has only been known as a typical decorative plant and honey plant - it magically attracts bumblebees especially. Its curative effect has been thoroughly explored only recently. It has anticonvulsant, sedative, antihypertensive, and ecbolic effects and is used as a heart tonic, against digestive problems, menopause problems, and as a tranquilizer in folk medicine.
