Perique is a rare heirloom tobacco variety from Louisiana. Traditionally the leaves are strongly flavored, fermented and mixed with other tobaccos.

It is a red burley tobacco, which is very strong and has a slightly charred flavour.

This tobacco was first cultivated over 400 years ago by the Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians.

Annual plant for the garden (under tropical conditions, Burley Perique tobacco may be perennial). Likes lots of sun, water and fertilizer. Sowing: preculture from February. Sprinkle the fine seeds onto the substrate and press down gently, do not cover with soil. Germinates at approx. 20 °C. Harden off and plant out in May.
