The cucumber variety 'Vorgebirgstrauben' is a very robust old variety. The small dark green cucumbers hang on the plant like grapes (German: Trauben) what gave the variety its name. They become 7-9cm long and can be constantly harvested from mid-June. Due to their size, the fruits are perfectly suitable for pickling in vinegar. Depending on if you harvest them early while they're still small and crispy or if you let them mature, they are suitable as baby pickles or even as mustard pickles. When pickling, you can wonderfully vary between spices, herbs, and salt to receive great, different variants like gherkins, dill pickles, or plain pickled cucumbers. Of course, you can also cure cucumbers by fermentation. This cucumber variety is dioecious and, thereby, mixed-flowering. Therefore, it's important to pay attention to the fact that bee activity is possible. The 'Vorgebirgstrauben' can be cultivated climbing as well as creeping.
