This red scallion has red-tinted shafts with a white tip. Spring onions are often cultivated in tropical countries because they are better adapted to warm climates than the regular onion (Allium cepa). They probably came to Europe in the 18th century, when they were cultivated mainly in England, as they are also very suitable for the colder climate. They are hardy perennials.
