Roseroot (Rhodiola rosea) grows wildly especially in the higher Arctic areas of Europe and Asia. It's very resistant and even survives extended drought and cold periods although it prospers better on slightly moister substrate. The approx. 20-30cm high growing plant forms a thick rootstock (rhizome) that wonderfully scents of roses when cut freshly. In its heyday, you can already see it shine from far away with its yellow, partly red-rimmed petals. Already the Vikings and the inhabitants of Siberia used the positive characteristics of the plant as a traditional pharmaceutical. In Siberia, up to now, they say: "People that drink roseroot tea get more than a hundred years old". Similar to ginseng, it's said to increase memory and the ability to concentrate and stimulate power and endurance. Meanwhile, the ground root is sold expensively due to the high demand. In China, it's described as "golden root" and had already been known to many emperors due to its healing power.
