The Round-Leaved Sundew is a carnivorous plant that's also indigenous here in Europe in swamps and wetlands. Its leaves are full of reddish tentacles, which secrete a sticky secretion. Small insects stick to it and are digested by the plant whereby it gets valuable nitrogen compounds. Many people think that their plant has died in winter and throw it away. But the sundew withdraws itself to the soil in winter and sprouts again in spring. It's hardy. In Germany, the Round-Leaved Sundew is protected in the wilderness by the "Bundesartenschutzverordnung", a federal act for species conservation.
