Several Brunfelsia species have great cultural significance in the Amazon region. Some of them, especially the variety uniflora, are common as decorative houseplants, while grandiflora, known as Chiric Sanango, is rarely cultivated. The plant, whose vernacular name is "Fever Tree", is an important South American healing drug, mainly used to break fever, and is administered as tea. The bark and leaves of the plant also play an important role in Ayahuasca rituals. Manaka root is a relative of brugmansia with violet flowers.
