The annual strawberry spinach is an old, nearly forgotten, South European spinach plant. Not only the leaves but also the red berries are useable in salads and very decorative. They have a similar consistency to mulberries, their (not very intense) taste lightly reminds of sweetcorn. The plant finds its place in the vegetable bed as well as in the flower bed. It also is a very decorative pot plant. From the red fruits, furthermore, a red dye can be gained.
