The Tamarillo is, botanically speaking, no real tomato but is also called "Tree Tomato". The bushy plant originates from tropical Brazil and is ideal for the greenhouse, winter garden or as a pot plant. Tamarillos are egg-shaped, 4-7cm long fruits that should be peeled as the skin contains bitters. The pulp has a very interesting, sweet flavour which, with increasing maturity, turns harsher. The fruits can be combined well with other fruits and served as an exotic dessert.
