Datura Inoxia is a Mexican toloache. Compared to other, colourful toloaches and angel trumpets, its white blossoms are rather unpretentious. Because of its size and the beautiful foliage, the plant is, nevertheless, cultivated as an ornamental plant. Under tropical conditions, therefore, also in the apartment, this variety is perennial. In various tropical countries, it's known as agrimony as it has nearly the same life and cultivation cycle as cotton. As all plant parts are poisonous, it's a rather undesirable guest. From this subspecies 'Wrightii', in Central and South America, a potent, shamanic remedy called toloache was made in the past. Thorn apples are a species of the family of the nightshades (Solanaceae) and, with approx. 20 varieties occur nearly worldwide. The epithet 'Inoxia' is a misspelling of the Latin word 'innoxious' that traces back to the English botanist Philip Miller. Correctly, the species would have to be written Datura Innoxia. Datura is very poisonous and shouldn't be planted into gardens where toddlers play!
