Mandragora turcomanica, also known as the Turkmenian mandrake, is very rare and is found only in Turkmenistan and Iran. It is the largest Mandragora species. It may be an ancient cultivated form of Mandragora officinarum that was grown in antiquity in this region. It bears a strong resemblance to Mandragora officinarum but is significantly more vigorous and sensitive to cold. Additionally, the seeds of the Turkmenian mandrake are larger and thicker than those of other mandrake species. The plant is very toxic and should not be planted in gardens where small children play!
