Vervain is a traditional Chinese and European medicinal plant that is used in numerous cough and cold preparations. Also, it's a highly appreciated medicinal plant in homeopathy. The plant that grows up to 80cm high surely belongs to the most legendary plants in Europe. Vervain was not only said to have magical powers. Anglo-Saxon and Gallic druids used it for shamanic ceremonies. There, it also bears the name "Devil's Bane". Its German name "Eisenkraut" ("iron weed") comes from its use as an excellent remedy for cuts and stabs, which were inflicted by iron weapons. In folk medicine, it's, therefore, used externally for injuries and ulcers and promises accelerated wound healing. More recent medicinal research attests the plant a soporific effect.
