The Watermint is a wild mint native to Central Europe with a strong but very noble flavour. It originates from North Africa and preferably grows on stream banks, wet meadows, or in flat waters. The antiseptic-acting essential oil of the watermint is considered especially valuable. It has been one of the initial species in peppermint breeding (Menta x Piperita). With its pink/purple blossoms, it's also well suitable as a decorative plant for pond planting. Used as a spice, it has to be applied very sparely as the slightly hot flavour is very assertive. The preparation of the leaves into tea, which is not only tasty but also medically effective, is especially popular. It's antipyretic and eases headaches. For herb pillows or bath additives, the herb of the watermint is ideally suitable.
