This wild asparagus variety is also known as stinging asparagus or asparagus corruda. In the whole Mediterranean area, i.e. Italy, France, and Spain, the young sprouts are often collected and considered a delicacy. It blooms in late summer and has small green-yellow blossoms and berries that ripen from green to black. The blooming or berry-bearing branches are suitable as cut flowers. The plant can reach up to 2 metres in height and hibernates as a rhizome in the soil (in mild winters and protected locations, the lignified, celestial plant part can also survive). Asparagus Acutifolius is a climbing plant in terms of its growth form that forms several metres long lianas that don't trail but grow as lignifying side shoots near-ground. Only the very young shoots are edible and significantly thinner than those of the cultivated asparagus. They have a very intense flavour.
