The wild pear is a very rare tree which occurs naturally in warm, nutrient-rich sites around Central Europe. In fact, in some countries it is listed as part of the endangered species. Insects love the flower nectar and hedgehogs, dormice, martens and badgers like its fruit. In mythology the wild pear is often the tree which attracts dragons, demons and witches. Another highly appreciated product of the wild pear is its very heavy and dense wood, which has a reddish color and is highly sought after for carving and wood turning.
