The radish species ‘Münchner Bier’ (Munich beer) is a classic autumn,- winter radish variety. It is therefore recommended to sow the radishes from beginning of June, although it is also possible to grow them all year around. The crops are delicate, white, rather large and firm radishes, which mature after about 80 days. True to its name this variety is lovely as a snack with beer and a popular dish, as part of the beer garden culture. Radishes belong to the ancient cultivated plants going back to 2500BC and there is evidence that they already then had been popular in Egypt and since been spreading around in the Mediterranean area. Today radishes seem to undergo a rediscovery and are lovely, cooked fresh in the wintertime.
