This wild crocus originates from South-Eastern Europe and grows in light forests. It has delicate violet flowers and is suitable for planting in meadows, as subplant for woody plants and trees, or for rockeries. It flowers a few weeks earlier than other crocuses and is thus an early spring flowering plant. The early crocus spreads and reseeds itself, but does not displace indigenous species as an invasive neophyte and is thus perfectly suited for naturalizing.
