Zinnias make very good cut flowers for a colourful summer bouquet. Beneficial insects, especially bees, love them as a rich source of food. They’re brilliant for filling gaps in a summer border, suit colourful cottage-garden planting schemes and also grow well in containers.

Perennial summer flower, grown as an annual in our climate. Start indoors from February. Direct sow outside from late May at temperatures of 18°C and above. Sowing depth: 0.5-1 cm. Young plants can be transplanted outdoors from late May. Prefers very warm, sunny locations and free-draining, fairly nutrient-poor soils. Not winter-hardy.
